This evening of music and discussion features the work of Leilehua Lanzilotti, a Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) composer / sound artist dedicated to the arts of our time. A "leading composer-performer" (The New York Times), Lanzilotti's work is characterized by expansive explorations of timbre. Lanzilotti's practice explores radical indigenous contemporaneity by integrating community engagement and ways of knowing into the heart of projects.

Leilehua's residency in Melbourne is supported by the Macgeorge Bequest. She currently in Melbourne on a Macgeorge fellowship working on her opera Lili'u, celebrating the legacy of the last queen of Hawai'I, Queen Lili'uokalani.

Acclaimed Australian composer Mary Finsterer explores the narrative interpretations of myths and ancient rituals in The Lost, her concerto for Viola and Cello with Orchestra & Electro-acoustics. The concerto sits as the third in a series of orchestral concertos by Finsterer entitled Missed Tales. The three works explore mysteries of nature and place within Northern European mythology.

Promoting a casual approach to sound and movement, the Centre’s series of Relaxed Performances provides the same exceptional artists in the best place to hear, with an environment specifically suited for audiences with sensory sensitivities. A relaxed performance is designed to create a safe and welcoming environment for people with autism, learning disabilities and sensory or communication needs. There is the ability for audience members to enter and exit the venue throughout the concert, the house lights will be turned on, and the sound will be moderated, providing a comfortable and less formal musical experience. With performances running for 45 minutes, this series is also perfect for young families. Children will be free to wriggle if they need, or leave the Primrose Potter Salon and move to a designated quiet area in the ground level foyer.
